Episode 5, April 13, 2006 - Bach Allamande
NEW Higher Quality Download ==> Cello Journey #5, April 13, 2006
There are some holidays coming up so I thought I would play something more reflective and thoughtful. This is a dance called an Allamande, also by Bach. I always think of it as being a bit shy at the beginning and more outgoing towards the end.

I really liked the ending, it was just as you said it would be. Thanks again for all your dedication towards this beautiful music. I look foward to more.

I’ve been completely in love with the sound of this beautiful instrument since I was quite young. I only wish I’d learned to play it instead of (or in addition to) woodwinds. I’ve been a musician for almost three decades now, playing first symphonic and classical music and now original “adult pop” (our band actually has a cellist!), and I think you’re a tremendously talented player.
What a great idea, to bring the music of the cello to people in such a graceful, simple, and non-threatening manner. I wish you the best of luck, and I’ll be tuning in for more of your podcasts!

Fantastic, please keep it coming. This is one of my must-check and favoriate site now.

You are a genius! I respect your initiative to share your talent with people. And I also respect that you do it just for the reason to share the beautiful music of the cello; your passion, which is so evident in your episodes when you play. I wish I could learn to play so I could make beautiful music as you do. Please, keep sharing the beautiful music of the cello with us. Thank you.

The music in this episode is the Allemande from the first cello suite by Bach.
Thank you for those great comments. I always read them carefully and really appreciate them. I also always think that they make my playing better.

Hi,
I really like your vodcast. I’ve subscribed to it via iTunes. However, I cannot upload them to my iPod. It has something to with the format. Is there a way for you to publish your clips in the right format for iPod?

I really enjoyed the longer piece. Are there composers other than Bach who have written as much for cello?
April 18th, 2006 at 7:22 pm
Many composers wrote a good amount of music for the cello. Some of it is for solo cello, some for cello with other instruments.
I will look into including an iPod edition that will come up in iTunes.

I really like what you are doing for classical music. Bravo.
Very nice playing.
Who did you study with at Eastman?
I may try this with the piano.
Good Luck

Thank you for the videos! I have just recently taken up the Cello and do have an instructor - but I appreciate these videos to give me a better appreciation of correct posture, bowhold and left hand technique.

This interpretation is slower than many other interpretations I’ve heard, and I must say that I prefer it very much. I find the slightly decreased tempo makes the piece much more dramatic and lyrical.
Such great work!

Brittany - Thanks. I always liked classical music. I like it too for background music since there are no words to draw your attention away.

I love it! The Allemande from Suite 1 is my favorite piece. As an adult beginner, I appreciate how you make it look so easy and make it sound so wonderful.
