Episode 4, April 7, 2006 - Bach Sarabande
NEW Higher Quality Download ==> Cello Journey #4, April 7, 2006
In this episode I play a slower dance also by Bach. It is called a Sarabande. You can try to imagine someone dancing to it if you like. Please keep the feedback and comments coming.
I will try to make an episode by Saturday morning of each week. Also, I am working on improving the look of things, like the backdrop. I received a helpful e-mail about this.

Another great performance. Could you do one in the future on how you play the cello w/o frets? Yes, I play with a guitar. Maybe history of cello. Looks like a big violin

very nice, i love the crisp sound of your cello. My cello has a much mellower sound thanks the the crack from the left f hole ot the bottom of the cello. anyway…
hey, i am 16 and play the cello, ive been working my way through the bach cello suites for the past few months now, i partiularly liked your prelude fingerings, i rarely venture past 3rd postion unless i am on the a string. Could i ask if you found playing relativly high, before thumb position and beyond, difficult, was it something that came naturally, or something that took work after learning to play the lower positions. I am going to make a request that maybe you play the courante from the second cello suite? in a future journey
thanks josh

The piece played in this episode is the Sarabande from Suite number one for solo cello by Bach. Thank you for the feedback.
Lee, there is some good information about the cello at wikipedia.org, the online encyclopedia.
Josh, thanks for the request. At some point I will hopefully get to that. Those higher positions before thumb position can be uncomfortable and take some time to learn. Try to keep your left hand relaxed. I hope that helps a bit.

I’ve heard this Bach Sonata before and didn’t think much of it, but your rendition really flag it for me as a good Bach piece.
Please keep making these and please keep up the good work. It’s things like your podcasts that make the internet worthwhile.

Very nice. A little hard drive in the frame this time
As another side note, is the crazy reverb something you are doing, or is that just this computer I’m on?

Oh, that was beautiful! Thank you!

Again, a great performance. I was wondering if you could play pieces from other composers besides Bach just to show versatility. That would be great. Keep up the good work.

I want you to know how much I appreciate and admire the growing body of work you are creating at Cello Journey.
Your playing is very beautiful and human; clean and expressive. I’ve just made a DVD-ROM of your podcasts both to enjoy (through ITunes without going on line) and to give to my cello students for their own education and edification.
It should be especially interesting for them because there are significant differences (at least I think they are significant) in the way you and I use both our left and right hands.
I wonder if you have high-quality video of all your performances avalable - perhaps as a standard DVD.
Sincerely yours
Andrew Victor

I really hate to be a critic but, I like to think of that dance as very slow, a lot slower than you play it. But very nice

Carter - I know what you mean. I do play it a bit faster. One thing I try to do is to play 3 beats per bar instead of 6 beats per bar.
